Rep. Jill Tokuda (D-HI-2) questions U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack on how to remove barriers for Native producers accessing USDA programs during the U.S. House Committee on Agriculture’s hearing. Tokuda's initial question to Secretary Vilsack below:
Mr. Secretary, underrepresented and underserved producers have been calling on the department to pilot a navigator program to help them navigate USDA's systems and processes for some time now. What's your position on the need for and the effectiveness of such a pilot program to be able to connect up our farmers, ranchers, producers with the support and help thats available and that they need but is right now very inaccessible to them in the way its being offered?
